For the second annual event, more than 200 family members impacted by SUDC came together to restore, reconnect and renew through educational opportunities, group activities and family-fun events specifically designed for grieving families to connect and heal.

The weekend featured therapeutic activities like yoga, meditation, an adult music therapy drum circle and a panel discussion on grief and resilience over time with parents. It included educational opportunities such as a keynote address and journaling workshop by grief specialist Dr. Sandra Howlett and a workshop for grandparents and other extended family members in attendance. The weekend also offered opportunities for families to spend time together including a group run and walk, a hike in White Tank Regional Park, golf outing, trip to the Desert Botanical Gardens and Butterfly Pavilion and special gatherings for moms and dads.

The retreat hosted over 90 children grieving the loss of their brother or sister. For their special needs, the weekend featured kids’ yoga, dessert nights, movie night, game night, grief programs, craft activities, a children’s music therapy drum circle and a visit from local reptiles and other native species!

Families celebrated the lives of children lost to SUDC with a Native American remembrance ceremony.
