Schedule of Events

We look forward to seeing you at the upcoming SUDC Foundation Family Retreat!  For your convenience, we have summarized the weekend schedule below. Please note the schedule is still a work in progress, times and activities may be slightly adjusted over he next few weeks as additional information becomes available.  If you have any questions, please contact Bonnie Starr, Director of Family Services, at or 973-795-1274. Friday, October 11

2:30 pm - 3:15 pm

For Early Arrivals: SUDC Research Update led by SUDC Foundation President and Executive Director and President Laura Gould Crandall.

4:00 pm - 4:45 pm SUDC Foundation Ambassador's Meeting Breakout Room 1
5:00 pm - 6:30 pm Welcome Reception- Join together for a lovely outdoor gathering under the tangerine-streaked sky, featuring entertainment with a local flair, refreshments and appetizers, all while mingling with Foundation staff, ambassadors, families and guests.  Wigwam Resort Lawn and Patio
6:30 pm - 8:00 pm On Your Own: Get re-acquainted and enjoy free time for a light dinner or cocktails, explore the resort, or take a walk downtown. Groups are encouraged.  
8:00 pm - 9:00 pm Children's Program: Kids and Teens Dessert Taco Fun and Craft Activity (Ages 8 & up)- SUDC siblings will have an opportunity to connect as they build a sweet Southwestern treat and decorative craft to represent the Southwestern retreat experience.

8:00 pm - 9:30 pm Dads Gathering- Join other SUDC Dads outside near the Bocce Ball/Corn-hole game area for an evening focused on getting to know each other, offering some much deserved "Dads only" time. Wigwam Resort Lawn and Game Area


Saturday, October 12

6:30 am - 7:30 am Sunrise Yoga and Meditation- Awaken your soul with light exercise as you join with with other SUDC parents to witness an inspiring Sonoran sunrise.

7:00 am - 7:45 am Early morning Group Run or Group Walk. 

Runners: meet SUDC Ambassadors at designated area.
Walkers: meet SUDC Ambassadors at designated area.

8:00 am - 9:00 am Breakfast- Be sure to grab a hearty breakfast at one of the resort's eateries in preparation for the day's activities.

9:15 am -10:00 am Retreat Kick-Off - Welcome remarks and strategic initiative update by SUDC Foundation Executive Director and President, Laura Gould Crandall. 

Sachem Hall

9:15 am -10:00 am Children's Program: Youth Yoga and meditation session led by certified child/youth Yoga instructor. Ages 5 and up. Breakout Room 3

10:00 am -12:00 pm Children's Program: Drop-In Activity Room staffed by professionals from New Song Grief Center offering a variety of age-specific craft and activity sessions. Ages 5 and up.  Breakout Room 1 (open house)

11:15 am -12:00 pm Children's Program: Kids and Teens Workshop: Rock Art of Arizona- Learn about the historical art of Arizona’s Indian ancestors, referred to as “Indian Graffiti” from Archaeologist and SUDC parent Tammi Watkins of the Univ. of Arizona Deer Valley Petroglyph Preserve.  Parents welcome. 11:15 am -12:15 pm Adult Music Therapy Drum circle led by Facilitator Frank Thompson.

11:15 am -12:15 pm Adults and Teens (ages 13 and up) Self-Care Workshop: Journal Writing and Better Sleep, led by experienced facilitator. Breakout Room 3
11:15 am -12:15 pm Educational session for grandparents and extended family members attending the retreat, led by a trained facilitator. Breakout Room 4

2:00 pm - 4:30 pm Family Play Time- Some activities options below: Wigwam Resort and offsite
2:00 pm - 4:00 pm Desert Botanical Gardens and Hayride Trip, hosted by the SUDC Foundation. The winding paths of this 50-acre desert garden showcase a fantastic variety of arid plants, from towering saguaros to delicate blooms. Transportation to and from the resort provided.

2:00 pm - 4:30 pm On your own: Visit the Children's Museum. One of the top three children's science museums in the nation. The Children's Museum of Phoenix is a wondrous place of imagination, creativity, and just plain fun.  Children's Museum of Phoenix 
Cost: $14.95 pp, under Age 1 free

2:00 pm - 4:30 pm Gather by one of the pool cabanas, reserved for families by the SUDC Foundation, while the kids have fun on the 25-foot tower twisting water slides.  Wigwam Resort Pool Cabanas
2:00 pm - 4:30 pm Take advantage of resort amenities, play tennis on one of the nine courts, swing a club at one of the three world class golf courses or relax with personal spa services. Wigwam Resort and Golf Club
2:00 pm - 4:30 pm Stroll downtown to browse through local shops offering and dining.

6:00 pm - 6:30 pm Group Tribute;  Join all attendees for a Native American remembrance tribute for SUDC children.  Wigwam Resort Lawn Area 
7:00 pm - 9:00 pm On Your Own: Late Dinner and/or additional free time (cocktails, onsite activities and music, pool). Wigwam Resort or Downtown Litchfield Park 
7:30 pm - 9:00 pm Children's Program: Tween Movie Night and Popcorn. Ages 8 and up. Family Gathering Suite

Please note, while most of the weekend’s activities are family friendly, there are a few specific sessions that are adults only -  Dads Gathering (Friday 8:00 pm) , the keynote speaker (Sat 10:00 AM), Moms gathering (Sat 8:00 pm), Adult Yoga (Sat and Sun 7:00 am) and Golf outing (Sun 6:30 AM). Please make other arrangements for your child/children during these times. Note: Activity Room is available on Saturday from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm for children ages 5 and up.
