Shine a Light On SUDC Landmarks

Let's illuminate 200 landmarks worldwide in blue and yellow, which are the official colors of the SUDC Foundation!

Ask your local businesses, libraries, town/city halls, schools, police and fire stations to participate by lighting up their buildings throughout the month of March. Consider illuminating your home in blue and yellow to honor the children who are gone too soon and to acknowledge the resiliency within our SUDC community affected by SUDC.

Post your photos, #ShineALightOnSUDC, tag the SUDC Foundation and ask your followers to share your post to meet our 50,000 shares on social media challenge!

For more details, please email us at: [email protected].

As National Volunteer Month ends, we would like to #ShineALight on Sarah Nesheiwat, an SUDC Ambassador and loving mother to Zaid (12/8/2013 - 5/5/2016) for her exceptional volunteerism.

In 2018, Sarah initiated a book drive to support other SUDC families to spread acts of kindness within their communities. Inspired by SUDC families leaving bubbles, toys, or flowers to brighten another person’s day in memory of their child, Sarah saw an opportunity to foster childhood literacy and share the love of reading.

As a teacher, childhood literacy is a passion for Sarah. She believed that children's books could serve as another meaningful way to spread random acts of kindness. To date, the book drive has distributed more than 18,000 books across the United States and Canada in memory of SUDC children. C.S. Lewis once said, “We read to know we are not alone.”

As Sarah has shared, "The book drive connects our SUDC families together in service, connects each family with their local community, and introduces countless children to the joy of reading, all the while blessing the world with the memories of our SUDC children and raising awareness for our cause. It is in this connection that their little lights shine on."

Thank you, Sarah, for being a beacon of hope for the SUDC community while shining a light on SUDC and honoring the memories of our precious children gone too soon.

As National Volunteer Month draws to a close, let’s continue to spread kindness and raise awareness one act of service at a time.

Honoring Black Maternal Health Week (April 11- April 17) and April is National Minority Health Month.

Did you know?

Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood occurs in Black/African American children at a rate more than 2.2 times that of white children. This staggering statistic sheds light on the urgent need to address disparities in healthcare and mental wellness among minority communities.

During this important week and month, let's come together to advocate for better access to maternal healthcare and mental health resources for Black and minority families. By raising awareness and fostering support, we can strive towards equitable care and better outcomes for all.
