Christopher's Story

Born at 12:34pm on January 13th, 2014, Christopher Riley Briscoe was a healthy, happy baby and completed our family in every way. April 4th, 2015, Easter Eve, we put our three children to bed and high-fived another successful bedtime routine. As we headed downstairs to reward ourselves with some much needed “Brooklyn 99” recordings, we had no clue that would be the last time we would kiss our sweet baby boy before bed.

The next morning was filled with excitement. It was Easter! A holiday full of new beginnings and Christ’s love for us. Once breakfast was complete and the table set, I headed upstairs to wake our sleeping Christopher as Daddy was about to leave for work. It was an odd thing to ever have to wake Christopher up but the day before had been a very busy day and we had all stayed up a little later than normal… so, I didn’t think twice about it. So, off I went to wake our boy up to open his Easter basket!

When I crept into his room, I noticed Christopher was face down with his legs slightly hanging out of his crib rails. My initial thought was “Oh! How precious! I wish I had my phone to snap a picture.”  I tip-toed into his room, singing his name to the tune of “Rise and Shine, Give God the Glory, Glory”.  As I went to pat his fluffy diaper, I knew something was wrong. Why hadn’t he responded? Why was he so hard and cold? My heart was racing and I let our a gut-wretched cry for David. At that moment, our lives were forever changed.

After months of not getting any answers, we were finally presented with his autopsy report and were sure the doctor was going to tell us exactly what happened to our sweet, sweet little boy. Much to our dismay, our doctor had no explanation as to why our son didn’t wake up.

Heartbroken, we searched for answers and that’s when we found The SUDC Foundation. The SUDC Foundation has provided a place for our family find support from other SUDC families, find purpose after our loss, and so much more!
